Position Overview

BayCare Medical Group is seeking a dedicated and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our established Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery team at BayCare St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa FL. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a highly experienced group of 4 cardiac surgeons and 6 advanced practice practitioners, providing comprehensive care to cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients across the continuum of outpatient services.

This position is ideal for an APP who is passionate about patient-centered care and thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced specialty practice.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient clinical care to cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients, including pre-operative and post-operative management
  • Provide limited inpatient support focused on day-of-discharge patient care, ensuring smooth transitions from hospital to outpatient follow-up
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including histories, physical exams, and diagnostic evaluations
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians
  • Manage follow-up care, including wound checks, medication management, and recovery monitoring
  • Provide patient education on procedures, recovery expectations, lifestyle modifications, and disease management
  • Coordinate care with physicians, APP colleagues, nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary team members
  • Review and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., imaging, labs) and communicate results to patients
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Practice Details

  • No call requirements
  • Collaborative team environment with experienced cardiovascular surgeons and APPs
  • Strong support structure and established workflows

 

Qualifications

Position requires:

  • Florida licensure 
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Board certification as an Acute Care NP or PA
  • Prior experience in cardiovascular, thoracic surgery, cardiology, or surgical specialty preferred (new graduates with strong clinical rotations may be considered)
  • Excellent clinical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a collaborative team
